Mandy's Story

I am in the middle of watching a show on Discovery Health channel that talks about a "Woman with Giant Legs". Her name is Mandy Sellars. She was born with a rare disease call Proteus Syndrome that makes her legs grow in size. Her legs are still growing at age 33. I am astonished because I've never seen anything like this. Doctors told her parents that she will not live as a baby and she will not be able to walk even if she lives. Mandy survived. She walks, drives and lives alone. She even went to school and earned her BS degree in Psychology. Mandy is a fighter.

What amazes me about people like Mandy, who are born with certain diseases or who have disabilities, is their mental strength. They fight to live every day. They are more proactive and motivated than a lot of us. A lot of us, including myself, sometimes dwell on things so minuscule that prevent us to enjoy life and the people around us. I don't understand why people seem to have a normal life have so many personal issues and insecurities.

I have the utmost respect for those unfortunate individuals that keep their heads high and live to see tomorrow. I wish only good things for them....
